How to Measure a Laptop for a Skin
Choose by the real lid dimensions and stated compatibility—not by a product photo alone.
Who this is for
Anyone buying a universal laptop skin, particularly owners of Windows laptops where a model label does not guarantee the outer-lid dimensions. Two minutes with a ruler can prevent a too-small sheet or awkward trim.
Lid size notes
Close the laptop and measure the flat lid’s maximum width and depth in centimetres or millimetres. Do not measure the screen diagonal. Note camera bumps, raised badges, hinge covers, curves and vents. Choose a sheet at least 1–2 cm larger in both directions so you can trim cleanly; do not plan to cover vents or force vinyl around deep curves.
Apply and remove it carefully
Use painter’s tape or the backing paper to rehearse the position. Clean and dry the lid, apply from a straight edge, smooth from the centre out, and trim conservatively. To remove, lift a corner with a fingernail, use mild low heat if needed, and pull slowly.

Will a skin made for the same screen size fit?
Not necessarily. Screen size is a diagonal measurement; compare the closed-lid width and depth with the listing before buying.
Can I cover vents or hinges?
No. Keep vinyl clear of vents, hinge gaps, ports, cameras and moving parts.
Can I remove a laptop skin later?
Most removable vinyl can be lifted slowly from a corner. Use only gentle low heat if it resists, then clean the lid with a suitable soft cloth.
