Best 16 Inch Laptop Skins UK 2026 — What Actually Fits a 16 Inch Lid
16 inch is the fastest-growing laptop size in the UK right now. Dell XPS 16, LG gram 16, ThinkBook 16, most of the new gaming machines and the MacBook Pro 16 all sit there — but almost nobody sells a "16 inch laptop skin". Search Amazon and the listings stop at 15.6 inch. That does not mean you are stuck. It means the inch range printed on the box is not the number you should be reading.
Why 16 inch skins are so hard to find
Skins are printed by the sheet, not by the laptop. A brand picks one design and cuts it in two or three standard sizes. The big one is roughly 38 × 27 cm (15 × 10.6 in) and gets labelled "11.6–15.6 inch universal", because 15.6 inch laptops are what most buyers own. The small one is about 34 × 24 cm and gets labelled "13–14 inch".
A typical 16 inch lid measures around 35.5 × 24.8 cm. So the 38 × 27 cm sheet covers it with room to trim, while the 13–14 inch sheet stops short and leaves bare metal showing at the corners. The check is simple: ignore the inch range and find the centimetres in the bullet points. 38 × 27 cm fits a 16 inch lid. 34 × 24 cm does not.
Fitting a sheet to a 16 inch lid
- Measure the lid, not the screen. Width and height of the outer lid, straight along the edges. Most 16 inch lids land between 35 and 36 cm wide.
- Clean it properly first. Isopropyl wipe, then a dry microfibre. Any speck of grit under the film shows through on a large flat lid.
- Start at the hinge edge. Peel back 3–4 cm of backing, line the straight edge up with the hinge, then push the film down with a squeegee or a credit card wrapped in the backing paper. Work towards the front edge, peeling as you go.
- Trim after, not before. Once it is stuck, run a craft knife along the lid edge with the blade flat against the side. Take 8–12 mm off each long edge and round the four corners so they cannot catch on a bag.
- Leave it 24 hours. The adhesive firms up overnight. Fiddling with the edges straight away is what makes them lift.

Black cats and flowers on a dark background — the quietest option and the one that hides everyday scuffs best. Five stars, but from a single review so far, so treat the rating as provisional rather than proven.
